Job Description:
The Building Modeling Engineer plays a crucial role within the design engineering function at AIIR Products.  This position involves the use of advanced simulation tools to predict the energy use and performance of buildings.
By creating detailed models, Energy Modeling Engineers provides essential data that:
  1. Helps the sales team promote the value of the AIIR Products HVAC system to customers, building design engineers, etc.
  2.  Generate data sets that can be used by engineering to develop algorithms
  3. Generate data sets that can be used by engineering to compare the effectiveness of algorithm improvements, etc.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Modeling Engineers are tasked with several critical responsibilities that ensure the effective implementation of sustainable practices in building and system designs:
  • Developing and implementing energy models using specialized software. (IESVE for example)
  • Analyzing building parameters and operational energy use to for presentation to new customers
  • Comparing operational parameters and energy usage for different HVAC  systems for a given building/location configuration
  • Collaborating with design teams to ensure that energy-saving features are integrated into software control algorithms
  • Presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and comprehensive manner.
  • Developing data sets for analysis by the controls team.
Key Tasks and Duties
Day-to-day tasks for an Energy Modeling Engineer might include:
  • Utilizing specialized software like IESVE for creating dynamic building energy and comfort models.
  • Interacting frequently with other engineers and project stakeholders to discuss the impacts of design alterations on energy use and occupant comfort.
  • Simulating various building scenarios and control algorithms to predict impact on energy usage and occupant comfort.
Education and Certification Requirements
Prospective Energy Modeling Engineers should have a solid educational background in a relevant field, accompanied by specific certifications demonstrating their expertise:
  • Minimum of Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in building energy modelling
  • Professional certification like Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) is highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards related to energy, such as ASHRAE 90.1 and IECC.
  • Experience with CAD and BIM software, as well as proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
