AIIR Products, Inc. is recruiting for the Principal Hardware Architect position in Carrollton, TX. The Principal Hardware Architect is responsible for architecting, designing, developing, prototyping, testing, qualifying, and completing all product development activities through product launch for the control hardware for Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Job responsibilities include: Conceptualize, architect, specify, innovate, design, and execute development of complex electronic control hardware for HVAC systems; Specify, architect, innovate, and oversee design of a wide-range of complex microprocessor-controlled devices using ARM, embedded and other microprocessor technologies; Specify, architect, innovate, and oversee design for power electronics systems and variable frequency drives; Execution of system architecture, including silicon evaluation, design and configuration, detailed product design, embedded SW/FW integration, antenna placement, power conversion, drives, and others; Support embedded firmware development for power electronics particularly for variable frequency drives; Oversee and co-develop with extended offshore mechanical, electronic hardware, firmware, and software engineering teams to design and validate system electronic control hardware; Research, recommend and select components for various subsystems, including power electronic components, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RF, memory, batteries, power, sensor and others; Design as well as evaluate, review and critique printed circuit board designs from internal and external resources; Prototype, test and debug designs as they progress through the design phases; Develop and oversee design verification testing (DVT), production verification testing (PVT), end of line (EOL), regulatory testing and development of manufacturing documentation; Lead hardware certification for the products – UL, IEC, AHRI, FCC, ISO, and others as applicable; Define product acceptance test requirements, develop test plans, oversee product testing/conduct tests as required and support troubleshooting to validate and finalize design; Document and maintain product design; Document testing, manufacturing, operation and maintenance procedures; and Support and/or solve electronics packaging issues including electrical isolation, sealing, thermal management, interconnection, shock and vibration management, electromagnetic interference (EMI), etc. Infrequent travel to unanticipated locations for conferences or to meet with vendors or suppliers.
This position requires a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering plus 10 years of experience in electrical equipment design and development. Experience must include 5 years’ experience in each of the following: (i) a laboratory environment in the hands-on development of electronic equipment; (ii) design and development of power electronics systems; (iii) developing variable frequency drives for HVAC equipment; and (iv) qualifying electrical and electronic products through listing standards such as UL, CSA, and IEC. Experience must also include 3 years’ experience in each of the following: (i) developing embedded firmware for power electronics; (ii) architecting product control and power hardware including selection of appropriate silicon, processors, power converters, and associated firmware; (iii) designing power factor correction topologies including conventional boost, 2-stage interleaved, 3-stage interleaved, and totem pole; (iv) designing switch mode power supplies such as buck, fly buck, and fly back configurations; (v) testing including reliability tests and qualification of power electronics and variable frequency drives; (vi) designing electronic systems for conducted and radiated electromagnetic interference; (vii) conducting simulation of electrical and electronic circuitry and systems using tools such as LT Spice, PSpice, PSIM, MATLAB etc.; (viii) design of printed circuit boards including prototyping, testing, and qualifying for production; (ix) design with mixed analog and digital electronic circuits; (x) designing embedded hardware for communication interfaces like UART, RS232/RS485, NFC & BLE; (xi) walking projects through a stage-gated new product development process; and (xii) working with contract manufacturers of electronic control boards in their qualification and set up for production. The above listed experience may be gained concurrently.
